Finding Out Your True Religion

if, i'm, better, by, did, god, sects, organized religion, religion, atheism

I never really believed in religion. Growing up, I was shown the ways of the Roman Catholic church which I really frown upon now in hindsight. I was also a bit sad because when I was younger, I was never given any chance to decide what I wanted for myself.

I was even punished one time when I wrote my ideals about religion during an essay writing class. My grandmother, who was the strictest and most devout catholic I have ever met told me that without religion, I would become either a street walker or a drug junkie or a combination of both.Ofcourse, as a little girl that really creeped me out.

But as I grew up and saw all of the ills in an organized religion, I began to wonder what would happen if I just turn my back in all of this. And that was exactly what I did. It took a short essay during poetry classes to affirm that I no longer believed in an organized religion nor in a supreme being. Rather, I would do good, stand by with my decision and try to be a better woman without the norms and dictates of other people breathing down my neck.

A few years later, here I am, working my way through college by acting. I did not by any means become what my grandmother told me I would if I dont subscribe to a certain sect or religion.

So take that all you haters! I'm still me and I'm still a better person to my peers and my friends and some select relatives.

Break free from the bonds of oppression!

I wonder if your grandmother was projecting some of her fears for herself onto you when she said you'd become a junkie without religion...
